Never one to shy away from a challenge, it is that same fearless nature during the tenacious pursuit of his dreams that has propelled John Landry towards success along some very difficult paths. Throughout his life, John has been driven to seek careers that continue to challenge him and satisfy his inner need for adventure.
John’s most recent accomplishment in becoming a Search and Rescue Helicopter Pilot with The Canadian Forces is a further testament to the hard work and dedication that he has invested in all of his pursuits. As a Search and Rescue Pilot, Captain Landry recently completed a three-year tour flying the Cormorant Helicopter with 103 Squadron in Gander, Newfoundland. John currently continues his work with the Canadian Air Force as a newly minted “Tiger” flying the Griffin Helicopter with 424 Squadron out of Trenton, ON. During his time as an “Outcast” at CFB Gander, John was honoured to participate in many awe-inspiring inland and offshore rescues. One of the missions that John was privileged to be a part of was re-enacted in an episode of “Land And Sea” and he was featured in a segment aired on “Here and Now” and “The National” broadcasted nationally on CBC. This, however, was not John’s first brush with the limelight, as many country music fans already know. Before John Landry sought adventure in the air, he touched people’s lives on stage with his music.
John Landry began his music career with a bang, immediately garnering several top ten hits on country music radio and CMT, and taking the industry by storm. Since emerging as the winner of the CCMA award for “Top Independent Male Artist of the Year” for his debut album “Forever Took Too Long” and earning the prestigious SOCAN award for “Most Played Country Song of the Year” for his first single “There You Were” in 2000, John has released three more albums with acclaimed producers such as J. Richard Hutt and Fred Mollin. With continued support at country music radio, a loyal fan-base and his fifth studio album soon to be released, John feels blessed to continue to be able to make music.
John’s fifth album entitled “Don’t Look Back” can be said to be a tribute to the journey that he’s travelled during his extensive career path and in his personal life with several themes emerging throughout the album and weaving their way into the lyrics in many of the songs. For despite the ups and downs, the successes and disappointments along the way, with hard work and perseverance John has been blessed to recognize and follow his dreams. Now as a father of two young sons, he hopes to continue along that path for he feels that his greatest accomplishment, more so than Canadian Air Force Pilot or Country Music Recording Artist, will be to teach his boys to have the courage to pursue their own dreams and to never give up. John has been blessed to have the support of an incredible family, who instilled that courage and passion within him, and encouraged him along the way, as well as the support of some truly amazing fans. It is in this vein that John hopes that “Don’t Look Back” will be his best album yet and is eager to begin touring again this summer inviting fans new and old along on his next great adventure.
